I) Challenges

  1. Some farmers appeared still lacking full fledged knowledge.
  2. Govt. Policy of massive subsidy on Chemical Fertilizer & it’s patronization.
  3. In adequate cattle population.

  5. Organic movement in Orissa is still very limited.
  6. The farmers getting confused whether organic or inorganic.
  7. Weeder was not available at appropriate time.
  8. Most of the indigenous seeds are getting extinct.
  9. Infrastructure support for seed bank is still a need for rural poor.
  10. Heavy monsoon spoiled some of the seeds that were sown in the field.
  11. Supply of green manure is still limited.
  12. Govt. doesn’t supply green manure seeds in right quantity in appropriate time.
  13. Some of the seeds were not germinated.
  14. Resource crunch.
  15. It’s a new & challenging concept in the area.

II) Learning

  1. Further training needed. It’s a continuous process to scale up the movement.
  2. People’s reluctance.
  3. Some times the farmers are getting confused whether organic or inorganic.
  4. Method of Organic farming could help the poor farmers in ensuring food security.
  5. SRI helped in maximizing production.
  6. Local artisans were to be promoted.
  7. The network could improve spreading organic farming and SRI.
  8. Market promotion effort can be easier through networking.
  9. Seed Bank promotion can help revival of good number of local variety seeds.
  10. Most of the indigenous seeds are getting extincted.
  11. Supply of green manure is still limited.
  12. Consumer acceptance is improving.

III) Recommendations

  1. More inputs are required for the farmers.
  2. Irrigation facilities need to be created.
  3. More exposure and training are required for the staff and farmers.
  4. Crop insurance is to be made.
  5. In case of natural disasters / calamities i.e. flood, drought, cyclone etc. mitigation support should be provided.
  6. Building of a strong alliance among promoting agencies, Govt. and the practicing farmers to popularize SRI in India.
  7. Mainstreaming of support mobilizations required.
  8. Encourage learning system among partners.
  9. Inter-learning mechanism should be developed.
  10. The new systems and different innovations should be shared among others.
  11. More emphasis should be extended to organic SRI.
  12. Necessary support need to be provided during disasters/calamities.
  13. More cultural shows and wallings are required.
  14. Responsible Partnership with Govt. dept. is highly required.
